"I would like to congratulate FICCI and all the participants at the launch of India Sanitation Coalition. Sanitation as an issue requires a consultative and collaborative approach, and I believe India Sanitation Coalition is a great initiative in that direction. Honorable Prime Minister's call during his Independence Day Speech in 2014 to draw the Nation's attention to the issue of sanitation as a key instrument of social change and empowerment has been receiving commendable response from key stakeholders over these months. Bharti Foundation launched Satya Bharti Abhiyan, its rural sanitation initiative on 18th August 2014 to improve quality of rural sanitation through construction of toilets for households lacking such facilities in over 900 villages of Ludhiana District in Punjab. The Abhiyan is also investing in the improvement of sanitation facilities in rural Government Schools by building new toilets for girls, where no such amenities exist. The Foundation is presently reaching out to over 200 villages across the District in the first phase of the Abhiyan. Let us take this opportunity to make the India Sanitation Coalition a platform where all of us including Corporates, NGOs, other organisations and individuals can come together to drive forward the nation's agenda of total sanitation."
