Empowering Gram Panchayats for Sustainable Sanitation in Sandila

India Sanitation Coalition (ISC) conducted a one-day training program under Lighthouse Initiative (LHI) Phase II on July 7, 2025, at the Block Office, Sandila, Hardoi (Uttar Pradesh), in collaboration with the HCL Foundation. Panchayati Raj Department, Hardoi, played an important role in organizing this training program. The training aimed to strengthen the capacities of Gram Panchayat-level stakeholders, including Pradhans, Secretaries, Panchayat Members, and technical staff, for effective implementation of Solid and Liquid Waste Management (SLWM) practices under LHI Phase II.
Highlights of the Training:
  • Introduction to LHI Phase II covering primary objectives, scope of work for Gram Panchayats, key deliverables, stakeholders, KPIs for model Gram Panchayats, and partner details of the program.
  • Introduction to HCL Foundation, its role in the creation of the Lighthouse block, its objectives, scope of work, and key stakeholders.
  • Comprehensive orientation on SLWM, including segregation, composting, and soak pit construction.
  • Practical insights into Faecal Sludge Management (FSM) and greywater solutions.
  • Creation of comprehensive Village and Block Development Plans and understanding the associated processes.
  • Clarification of the roles and responsibilities of Gram Panchayat stakeholders in SLWM implementation.
  • Overview of funding avenues through SBM-G, the 15th Finance Commission, MGNREGA, and CSR support.
  • Technical inputs from ISC with support from HCL Foundation.
  • Graced by the Block Development Officer (BDO), Sandila, the session highlighted the shared commitment to building a cleaner and more sustainable rural future.
