Lighthouse Initiative Phase-II: Stakeholder Orientation and Training Conducted in Thuamul Rampur, Kalahandi

Under the Lighthouse Initiative Phase-II, the India Sanitation Coalition, in partnership with Hindalco Industries and the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, conducted a comprehensive orientation and training program for 90 participants representing 24 Gram Panchayats in Thuamul Rampur block on 7 November 2025.
This collaborative effort brought together Sarpanches, GPDO officials, and community leaders to address critical waste management challenges across the block.
Participants engaged in intensive capacity-building sessions focused on solid and liquid waste management, behavior change communication, and infrastructure development, addressing challenges such as lack of toilet facility awareness and managing dispersed villages in difficult terrain.
Key highlights included practical waste segregation exercises under the campaign “Mera Kachra Meri Jimmedari,” detailed discussions on creating Village and Block Development Plans, and exploring funding mechanisms through SBM-G, 15th Finance Commission, MGNREGA, and CSR contributions.
Key outcomes of the program included:
  • Enhanced capacity for solid and liquid waste management across the block
  • Strengthened understanding of behavior change communication and community engagement strategies
  • Practical experience in waste segregation and sanitation management initiatives
  • Knowledge and planning support for Village and Block Development Plans
  • Demonstrated the effectiveness of public–private partnerships in driving sustainable rural sanitation
